Ambassador Yousef Al Otaiba Meets with US Transportation Secretary Elaine Chao

WASHINGTON, October 24, 2017 – Ambassador Yousef Al Otaiba met with United States Secretary of Transportation Elaine Chao in Washington. The Ambassador and the Secretary discussed the significant trade ties between the UAE and US and affirmed their mutual interest in continuing to expand the bilateral economic relationship.
In particular, Ambassador Yousef Al Otaiba and the Secretary explored opportunities for collaboration on infrastructure projects as well as new transportation technology, including autonomous vehicles and drones. Ambassador highlighted the UAE’s role as a hub for US businesses, with major ports in Dubai and Abu Dhabi.
In addition, the Ambassador highlighted the mutual benefits of the two countries’ strong commercial aviation relationship, which supports hundreds of thousands of US jobs.
In 2016, bilateral trade between the UAE and US reached $26 billion. The UAE has been the US’ largest export market in the Middle East and North Africa since 2009, and aircraft are the top category of exports.
