In an interview with Currents News, a Catholic news program airing on NET-TV, Consul General Al-Suwaidi discusses the UAE's long relationship with the Vatican ahead of the Pope's visit to the UAE.
"The UAE is a very tolerant and open society where people are free to worship and practice their religion. We have more than 40 churches, 700 Christian ministries and people of many different faiths," he said.
Consul General Al-Suwaidi added that, "in the UAE, we have a vision of a moderate, modern, Islamic state and the UAE government has done a lot of work to promote our shared values and a cross-cultural dialogue. The year 2019 is the Year of Tolerance in the UAE, and this visit is really part of this in celebrating diversity and interfaith dialogue.”
