UAE Consul General Majid Al-Suwaidi Wraps Up Florida Business Tour with Dubai Investment Development Agency

Consul General Al-Suwaidi and Dubai FDI expand UAE-US business relationship

NEW YORK – March 30, 2017 – His Excellency Majid Al-Suwaidi, United Arab Emirates Consul General in New York, and a delegation from the Dubai Investment Development Agency (Dubai FDI) visited Florida last week for a diplomatic mission to strengthen the UAE-US business and cultural ties across the state. The delegation met with local business and government officials in Miami and Fort Lauderdale, following Consul General Al-Suwaidi’s meeting with Florida Governor Rick Scott in Tallahassee.

“Florida is an important partner to the UAE. In 2016, the state exported over $1.5 billion in goods to the UAE, making it one of our top five US exporters,” Consul General Al-Suwaidi said. “The UAE is continuing to build on this relationship and seek new trade and investment opportunities in key states like Florida.”

During the Miami visit, Consul General Al-Suwaidi delivered remarks on UAE-Florida bilateral ties in a discussion hosted by The Beacon Council, Miami-Dade County’s Official Economic Development Partnership. Consul General Al-Suwaidi and Dubai FDI also toured PortMiami, the global headquarters for five leading cruise lines, and met with Mr. Emilio Estefan, Chairman of Estefan Enterprises, who was interested in strengthening relations between the U.S. Latino community and the UAE.

In Fort Lauderdale, Consul General Al-Suwaidi and Dubai FDI participated in the Greater Ft. Lauderdale Alliance networking and roundtable seminar where the Honorable Barbara Sharief, Mayor of Broward County, highlighted the great partnership between Emirates Airlines and Fort Lauderdale. The delegation ended the visit with a tour of Derecktor Shipyards and HEICO, an aerospace and electronics company.

Dubai FDI is part of the Department of Economic Development in Dubai and provides essential information and support to foreign businesses looking to invest in Dubai’s growing economy. Danny Sebright, president of the U.S.-U.A.E. Business Council accompanied Consul General Al-Suwaidi and Dubai FDI during the Florida diplomatic mission.
