UAE Embassy Organizes 5K Race in New York Celebrating 50 Years of History and Friendship

Washington, DC (December 5, 2021) - On Saturday, December 4, 2021, the Embassy of the United Arab Emirates in Washington, DC organized a 5K race at Prospect Park in Brooklyn, New York in celebration of the UAE’s 50th anniversary. The “UAE 5K for the 50th” also featured traditional Emirati experiences that showcased the history and culture of the UAE. New York State Senator Kevin Thomas blew the whistle to kick off the race, and more than 700 people participated in the 5K run and activities.
New York declared December 2, 2021 to be 'Emirati Day' across the state in recognition of the UAE’s 50th anniversary, which also marks 50 years of friendship between the UAE and US. The commemoration reflects the shared understanding that the relationship between the UAE and New York is set to grow even stronger in the years ahead.
Her Excellency Amna Almheiri, Consul General of the UAE in New York, participated in the celebration, along with distinguished guests included Lieutenant Governor of the State of New York Brian Benjamin and two New York State Senators; Senator Kevin S. Parker, senator Kevin Thomas, His Excellency Lieutenant-General Mohammed Hilal Al Kaabi, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Armed Forces Officers Club and Hotel, and several other UAE officials.
Consul General Almheiri said, "I am thrilled to celebrate this remarkable moment for the UAE alongside fellow Emiratis and friends in the US. And it is fitting – the UAE’s relationship with the US is such an important piece of our story. Many thanks to Senator Kevin Thomas for his friendship and participation in this special day.”
