UAE Embassy in Washington, DC Celebrates 53rd National Day

December 9, 2024

On December 2, the Ambassador to the United States, Yousef Al Otaiba, hosted a reception in honor of the UAE’s 53rd National Day. The event took place at the Andrew W. Mellon Auditorium in downtown Washington, DC, celebrating the strong partnership between the UAE and the US, rooted in a shared vision of progress and prosperity. The reception was attended by guests and Embassy staff who have supported this growing relationship.

In his remarks to the guests, Ambassador Al Otaiba emphasized the importance of “Mutahid” (United), a theme that encapsulates the unity underpinning the enduring relationship between the UAE and the US. He highlighted the significance of the recent official visit by UAE President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan to the US, marking the first-ever visit by a President of the UAE to Washington.

“United is – of course – how we both identify our own countries: the United Arab Emirates and the United States of America,” said Ambassador Al Otaiba. “But it is also how we describe our deep connection to each other. We are united in purpose – making the world and region safer and more secure. We are united in prosperity – strengthening trade, technology, and commercial ties. We are united in values – promoting co-existence, cultural exchanges, and educational links.”

Following his remarks, Ambassador Al Otaiba showcased the Embassy’s latest video, "United (Mutahid) for Prosperous Future for All,” which highlights the progress of the bilateral relationship. Guests were then treated to a performance by an Emirati stick dance troupe, performing the traditional Al Ayyala dance, which embodies Emirati values and heritage using bamboo canes and a steady rhythm of drums.

The event also featured displays of Emirati and American heritage, including stations showcasing UAE and US fusion foods created by Michelin-star restaurant trained Chef Meera Al Naqbi, Emirati scents representing the seven emirates, a display of the Crew and Airlock module the UAE will be providing for NASA’s Gateway Station, and a model of the Abrahamic Family House in Abu Dhabi, which houses religious buildings for the Abrahamic faiths in one area.

The UAE Embassy’s 53rd Eid Al Etihad celebrations were attended by senior US government officials, Ambassadors from around the world, representatives of the Washington, DC diplomatic corps, business leaders, and community officials.
