Statement by the Embassy of the United Arab Emirates Regarding Sudan

The Sudanese people have suffered for over two and a half years from a brutal civil war between two Generals, which has resulted in countless civilians killed; hospitals, homes, and health-care systems destroyed; the world’s largest food security crisis; and civilians facing an appalling combination of atrocities including starvation, mass displacement, and sexual and gender-based violence. Recent humanitarian assessments indicate that over 30.4 million people – more than half of Sudan’s population – require urgent humanitarian or protection assistance.

(8 December 2025) – Twin chefs Maitha and Abdulrahman Al Hashmi, the youngest certified culinary professionals in the United Arab Emirates, brought a unique taste of Emirati culture to Washington, D.C. as special guests of the UAE Embassy’s 54th National Day celebration. The Al Hashmi twins played a central role in curating the menu for the Embassy’s National Day event, serving up innovative Emirati-American fusion dishes that embodied the warmth and creativity of their homeland.
